Peer Matchmaking at Workshops and Training Events in Kenya
Small-format workshops benefit from matchmaking too. How peer pairing, cohort grouping and follow-up work for 40 to 150 participants.
Matchmaking is usually pitched at 1,000-delegate expos, but the format that gains most is the 60-person workshop, where participants are chosen for expertise and the value sits in who they meet.
At this size the goal shifts from volume of meetings to quality of pairing.
Pair, do not flood
Rather than an open request market, cap requests low and let the platform propose a shortlist of three to five relevant peers per participant based on their stated challenge and sector.
Fewer, better-matched conversations beat a full diary of speculative ones at this scale.
Build cohorts from profile data
The same profile fields that drive matchmaking also generate balanced breakout groups: mixed seniority, mixed organisation type, no two colleagues in the same table.
Facilitators receive the group lists in advance instead of counting people off in the room.
Use the coffee break properly
Two 20-minute paired conversations across a day are enough. Print each participant's pairing on their badge insert so nobody hunts through a phone.
Trainers can then reference those conversations in the closing session, which lifts perceived value of the whole workshop.
Follow-up is the deliverable
After the workshop, participants receive the contact details of everyone they met, subject to consent, plus a shared resource pack.
